Dosage & instructions for use

Take one capsule with a glass of water, preferably away from drinks containing theine or caffeine (which reduce iron absorption).

It is recommended to take iron supplements separately from multivitamin complexes such as Pregnancy Multivitamins. Some minerals interact with iron, so ensure there is at least a 3-hour gap between doses.

Ferrochel® iron bisglycinate

Iron is a fundamental mineral involved in many bodily mechanisms: oxygen transport, normal functioning of the immune system, normal cognitive function, and reduction of fatigue. [1,2]

There are two main forms of dietary iron: heme iron, found in meat and fish, and non-heme iron, of plant origin. Iron bisglycinate is a chelated non-heme form, with significantly higher bioavailability than conventional iron salts. [3,4]

Iron deficiency is not uncommon: it affects about 30% of the world's population [3,4], especially women with heavy menstrual cycles or during pregnancy.

Our Ferrochel® iron bisglycinate is clinically studied and patented: very well assimilated by the body [4], it benefits from excellent intestinal tolerance without causing digestive discomfort. [5]

In addition to these many advantages, Ferrochel® is what is called chelated iron, meaning that the iron molecule is bound to other molecules (here, it is bound to amino acids: two glycines), which will play a positive role in its bioavailability.

Vitamin C

Our vitamin C is produced through fermentation. Vitamin C enhances iron absorption. It also helps reduce fatigue and protect cells against oxidative stress. [1,2]

Why supplement with iron?

Iron reserves can be affected throughout life. Iron helps reduce fatigue, supports normal energy metabolism, and contributes to normal cognitive function. This nutrient is an essential pillar for the proper functioning of the body, particularly for oxygen transport.

Particularly in women: During the reproductive life, physiological losses related to menstrual cycles can influence iron nutritional needs. During pregnancy, needs evolve to support the body's natural adaptations.

Iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and to normal energy metabolism. The assessment of iron status is based on a personalized biological evaluation.

This is a period when physiological needs increase to support the baby's development. Your healthcare professional will be able to assess the necessary intake based on your profile during your regular check-ups.

The body has been under intense strain during childbirth. Supplementation is often recommended from the end of pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding, your nutritional needs may remain high to support your recovery and your child's, and your healthcare professional can guide you.

Menstrual bleeding can affect your inner balance and iron reserves. A biological assessment can evaluate your status.

The Boome council

If you feel the need for additional intake, speak to your healthcare professional. Iron supplementation should be part of a personalized protocol, ideally after a biological assessment to precisely adjust your dose.

Not all forms of iron are created equal

The bioavailability of an iron supplement – that is, the body’s ability to absorb and utilise it – varies depending on the form used. There are generally two categories:

  • Conventional iron salts (ferrous sulphate, iron oxide): these are widely used forms, which may cause digestive sensitivity in some people, particularly at high doses.
  • Iron bisglycinate (chelated): the form we have chosen at Boome. Bound to the amino acid glycine, this ‘chelated’ form is protected during digestion, allowing it to be absorbed more effectively by the intestinal lining – even at lower doses.

Why is this important? Better bioavailability means your body absorbs the mineral more effectively, whilst generally being better tolerated by the digestive system. This is particularly valuable during pregnancy, when iron requirements increase and digestive comfort is often compromised. Furthermore, an appropriate daily intake helps avoid any risk of iron overload, which is particularly important for those at risk (haemochromatosis).

FAQs

How do I know if I am iron deficient?

Only a biological assessment can detect an iron deficiency. A sign of iron deficiency (or rather, a decrease in your stores) often manifests as persistent fatigue and pale skin. Iron plays a role in combating fatigue² and in the normal functioning of the immune system⁴. If you experience these signs, we recommend consulting your doctor to measure your ferritin level (the storage protein) and detect any potential iron deficiency.

Can iron help with fatigue?

Yes, and fatigue can have many causes.

Iron helps reduce fatigue and contributes to normal energy metabolism. It also plays a role in the normal transport of oxygen in the body and in normal cognitive development.

In case of persistent fatigue (which can affect your physical performance), it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional to identify its origin.

Is iron important for women?

Yes, especially during demanding periods. Iron requirements can vary depending on life stages (menstrual cycles, pregnancy, physical activity). Chronic iron deficiency can, in some cases, lead to iron deficiency anemia, a condition that must be diagnosed and monitored by a healthcare professional. Iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, as well as to the normal function of the immune system.

Why choose iron bisglycinate over a classic iron salt?

The key difference can be summed up in one word: bioavailability. Conventional iron salts (sulfate, oxide) are often less easily absorbed, and their absorption can be hindered by drinking tea or coffee. In contrast, heme iron (of animal origin) is naturally well absorbed but is absent from vegetarian diets. Ferrochel® iron bisglycinate offers significantly better absorption than standard forms, according to comparative studies. (1)

The result: you get the full benefits of iron in a dosage that respects your body’s natural balance, without overburdening your digestive system.

Is your iron supplement giving you stomach ache?

No! Several scientific studies have shown the benefits of our patented Ferrochel® iron and bisglycinate iron in gastrointestinal disorders, particularly in pregnant women, compared to other forms of iron (such as iron sulfate). [1,2]

Can I take Multivitamines Grossesse at the same time as Iron?

Yes! However, we advise you to take your iron supplement at a different time from a multivitamin complex, such as Multivitamines Grossesse. Some minerals (like zinc) interact with iron, so you should ensure there is a gap of at least 3 hours between doses.

For example, we recommend taking your Multivitamines Grossesse capsules in the morning and your Iron capsules before dinner.

Is it good to take Fer every day?

If your doctor confirms an iron deficiency, you can follow their recommendations. Our supplement is designed for regular daily intake, but the dosage can be adjusted with your healthcare professional's approval. Conversely, unsupervised supplementation can lead to iron overload, which is why a preliminary biological assessment is always recommended.

Is there a risk of iron overload?

When respected, the dosage of 14 mg per day (100% of Reference Intakes) does not present a risk of iron overload for a healthy individual. However, any increase in dosage should be done under medical supervision. Our product is not recommended for people suffering from conditions leading to abnormal iron accumulation (hemochromatosis, polycythemia).

Do tea or coffee influence iron absorption?

Yes, certain substances like tannins can decrease iron absorption. It is advisable to avoid taking it simultaneously with tea or coffee.
